Hemkund Sahib Tour Package
Hemkund Sahib is a revered Sikh pilgrimage site l
ocated in the Chamoli district of Uttarakhand, India. The yatra or pilgrimage to Hemkund Sahib is considered to be one of the most challenging yet spiritually fulfilling journeys in India. It involves trekking to an altitude of 4,632 meters, passing through scenic vistas of the Himalayas, and culminating in the holy Hemkund Sahib Gurudwara.
The yatra usually takes place from May to October, with the peak season being June to August. The journey begins from the town of Govindghat, which is accessible by road from the major cities of Uttarakhand such as Dehradun, Rishikesh, and Haridwar. From Govindghat, the trek to Hemkund Sahib is about 19 kilometers long and can take anywhere from 6 to 10 hours depending on one’s fitness level and the weather conditions.
The trek is divided into four parts: Govindghat to Ghangaria, Ghangaria to Hemkund Sahib,
Hemkund Sahib to Ghangaria, and Ghangaria to Govindghat. The first part of the trek from
Govindghat to Ghangaria is relatively easy and takes about 3-4 hours. The trail passes through lush green forests, gurgling streams, and small villages, providing a glimpse into the local culture and way of life.
The second part of the trek from Ghangaria to Hemkund Sahib is the most challenging as it involves steep ascents and a gain in altitude of around 1,000 meters. The trail is narrow and rocky, and one needs to be careful while trekking. However, the stunning views of the surrounding mountains and valleys make the journey worthwhile.
As one approaches the Hemkund Sahib Gurudwara, the air becomes thin and breathing can become difficult due to the high altitude. It is advisable to take frequent breaks and drink plenty of water to avoid altitude sickness.
The Hemkund Sahib Gurudwara is located on the banks of a crystal-clear lake, which is believed to have healing properties. The Gurudwara is an imposing structure made of white marble and is surrounded by snow-capped mountains. The atmosphere inside the Gurudwara is serene and peaceful, with devotees singing hymns and offering prayers.
The lake next to the Gurudwara is freezing cold, and devotees take a dip in its holy waters as a part of the ritual. The water is so cold that it can numb one’s body in a matter of seconds, but the
spiritual significance of the ritual makes it a must-do for all the devotees.
The Hemkund Sahib Yatra is not just a physical journey but also a spiritual one. The journey tests one’s physical endurance and mental strength, and at the same time, provides an opportunity to connect with oneself and the divine. The beauty of the surroundings, the simplicity of the local people, and the purity of the atmosphere make the journey a transformative experience.
It is essential to be
well-prepared for the Hemkund Sahib Yatra. One needs to carry warm clothing, sturdy shoes, a raincoat, a first aid kit, and enough food and water to last for the journey. It is also advisable to acclimatize oneself to the high altitude by spending a day or two in Ghangaria before proceeding to Hemkund Sahib.
In conclusion, the Hemkund Sahib Yatra is a challenging yet rewarding pilgrimage that provides an opportunity to
experience the beauty of nature and the divinity of the spiritual realm. The journey is not just about reaching the destination but also about enjoying the journey and the lessons it teaches.
